swaddle blankets and onesies

some advice i've heard from many moms is that muslin blankets are the BEST. especially with hot florida weather. well, muslin blankets are expensive. try 4 for $35 bucks. yeah right. my mom found this site that sells cotton bubble gauze and one review said it was perfect for swaddle blankets. so we ended up getting 10 yards at 5 bucks a yard. when we got the fabric we worried it was too thin but after we washed it, it was perfect! we ended up getting 9 blankets out of it! it did shrink when we washed it but we cut so that the blankets were about 42-44 inches wide and it seems to be the perfect size. each square had two raw edges after cutting them up so we took a serger and sewed and finished the ends in about 15 minutes. easy peasy.

we used RIT powder dye, Dylon powder dye and Tulip powder die. the RIT colors i chose were sunshine orange, denim blue and pearl gray. i used bahama blue in dylon. and tulip had a lime green that i loved.
after we finished. i decided i wouldn't use the RIT powered dye again. i'd give the liquid a try but the powder seemed to leave everything splotchy. i really regretted picking grey. and i tried to do an obmre blanket and that didn't work as well. i dont think the colors turned out exactly how i imagined but i am still very happy with how everything looks. i can't wait to use them!
i still plan on freezer paper stenciling something on the onesies so you haven't seen the end to them!

you can see the splotches on the far right onesie

Yeah... the powder stuff is weird. I used the RIT liquid dye to dye chris' pants for halloween and they came out great. The long sleeve onesies came out great! I think better than the short sleeve ones. Also, good deal on the muslin.
