tips for trips with baby

we will be making a trip to atlanta and a trip to orlando in the coming weeks for kaitlyn's wedding. this is the first roadtrip liam will be going on and i have no idea what to expect or how to prepare for it!
i need your advice!
i'm pretty sure someone will be in the backseat with him so it'll be easy to reach him/entertain him. i plan on having some mickey mouse downloaded so we can always use those if needed.
what about staying in a hotel? we have a pack-n-play that we'll be bringing and i've heard that sticking them in the bathroom keeps from waking them up.
that's about as much as i have planned. any and all advice is welcomed!

I'd like to think we are old pros at this traveling with a baby thing. We drove across the country when brinley was 5 months old. And now with Ellie, she has made multiple trips over 8 hours long. SO. The best advice I have is toys. I kept probably 20ish toys in a separate bin and every time she dropped one, I'd hand one back to her. New toy! it kept her busy for awhile. The drop. Here's another toy!! Repeat 50 times :-) When it comes to napping in the car, I'd actually suggest NOT sitting in the back with Liam. It will distract him even more. So if it comes to his nap time, move to the front so that he can either cry a bit and fall asleep, or just zonk out to you guys talking. In hotels, we've found it easiest to shut off all the lights, and sit outside the hotel room until they fall asleep. Bring a baby monitor too if you are going down the hall or something. We've also used our cell phones one time with having one phone next to the pack n play on mute. It was awesome! and totally worked. I think the key is, if you're stressed, the baby will stress. Stop when you need to. Remember that its ok for Liam to cry in the car. The drive to Atlanta isn't too long so between a nap or two in the car, you'll be there in no time. Thankfully for us, Brinley keeps Ellie entertained and happy. I drove down here for our move ALONE in the car with the two girls and we never had a melt down. I may have almost driven the car off the road...oops...but that's because my arm was reaching back there for the dvd player for Brinley! You'll do great! Exciting to have another wedding in the family!

Videos are a god-send! Don't be like us driving down with poor Alyse and your mom with 5 month old Robby screaming most of the way :-) All I can say is lots of snacks and if he likes movies then bring or barrow a portable DVD player for him to watch stuff. Good luck!

When Ava was 13 months old we took our third trip, the first to Tampa, second to Jax and third to Orlando for Cory and Lindy's Sealing.... On the way there Ava had a terrible blowout, it got all over the car seat, I had to strip it because there was literally poo everywhere on that thing. Ava had to sit in just the plastic part of the carseat.

Both of my kids tend to just let it all go on road trips etc and somehow get a diaper rash/uti/yeast infection so I tend to take stuff with me in small amounts-butt creams/meds etc.

I learned to pair down after going back and forth to Jax every other weekend after Danny's dad had his heart transplant.

Things that I absolutely take:

Tide (the one load packet-I've learned to handwash in the tub/blow dry with dryer or they might have a laundry facility that will allow washing something)

Shout wipes (so the stains won't be set in when we get home)

Lysol wipes to wipe things down in the hotel/wipe the tub down because I don't take the tub and those tubs are gross

Hand sanitizer/wet ones for Liam when he's crawling on the floor (sometimes you notice their hands get black)

Paper towels (always good to have)

A throw down towel

A couple of grocery bags-those trash cans are too small when you have diapers etc to change

Boppy-that thing is THE BEST neck pillow/lap pillow...for me at least :)

Favorite Toy (s), blankey, pillow

I attach the toy rings to the carseat (on the belt part) with a toy that has a hook so Cole doesn't drop them and I can just reach back and grab the rings

Prefill bottles with water so you can just add formula to (I would always put them in the pocket of the seat behind me)

Snacks Snacks Snacks :)

I keep a diaper bag in the car and make sure I pack extra diapers and wipes that will be in the hotel so I won't have to go back and forth.
